I posted a lengthy explanation of my experiences with this software and Zortrax’s support on another 3dhubs thread, “New Zortrax M200 Software 1.5.0.1 crashes mac”. Here is the bottom line of my rambling:

  • If you are on OS X 10.9 Mavericks or earlier, Z-Suite 1.5.1 will not run. Z-Suite versions 1.4.1 or earlier will run. However, the Split Object function won’t work and if you stick with that version you will miss out on future improvements and/or bug fixes.
  • Z-Suite 1.5.1 runs fine on OS X 10.10 Yosemite and 10.11 El Capitan. In my case, the first time I tried to open Z-Suite the icon just “bounced” for quite a long time (2 or 3 min?) but then it opened. I’m on OS X 10.11.3 (early 2008 Mac Pro, SSD, 14 Gb ram) and everything seems to work great.
  • Regardless of the OS or the version of Z-Suite, you must install Mono Framework version 4.0.4.4 and only that version.

FWIW, I just installed 1.8.1(and Mono 4.0.4) on macOS Sierra 10.12.3, and it just wouldn’t come up, kept beachballing and then Force Quit showed it as “Not Responding”.

So I waited. A _really_ long time. And it came right up.

Software!

Did you install the Mono environment version 4.0.4.4 before installing Z-Suite? Z-Suite won’t run on a Mac without it and my experience (a year ago) was it won’t run in later versions of Mono, just that one. Oh, and as you probably already read, even when it’s working properly Z-Suite takes a long time to boot. On my setup, “a long time” is just under two minutes.

Yes, installed Z-Suite after Mono 4.0.4.4, fired it up, thought it was lost, got distracted, and it eventually came up. Still kind of a nighmare on the Mac, I need to rebuild my PC to really “use” Z-Suite, but that’s a whole nother rathole.
