Does anyone know if PLA or ABS is translucent. Imagine a cube 100 x 100 x 100 mm with 3 mm thick walls and ultra bright LEDs inside. When on, will the LED inside the cube make it shine like a lamp or through a diffusing material (like sand blasted glass) or is it going to be invisible like a solid opaque plastic?
Many thanks,
Daniel
PLA natural is translucent to shine like a light, it will depend on the brightness of the LED that you use if you want it to work as a lamp.To allow more light through, you can reduce the %fill even with a 3mm thick wall.
Hi Daniel,
I did a logo light sign with natural PLA (PolyPlus natural from Polymaker), the thickness of the shell was 2mm and the LEDs are common on powered by 12V 4A, and the sign is just beautiful and the light diffusion is perfect
PFA a picture
Great, many thanks for the answer. PLA it is then.
Many thanks for the answer.
I love the look of Natural PLA! but also natural ABS and Natural Polycarbonate (285 degrees+),will give about same look. I have tried a few diff suppliers, with way diff. results! The best natural PLA I have found is from http://www.makergeeks.com/maker-filament.html ! They even have a “food safe” Natural PLA! Hope this helps.
That’s a very beautiful sign!!! I had to say somethin! Thats Awesome Nicolas!
