Hi everyone!
We are the X01 team and we recently released a new DIY project.
This coaxial UAV is full 3d printed. The body consisted of 24 parts no bigger than 150mm !
That means you can print it in a relatively small bed ! We used for instance Printrbot Simple metal.
This UAV can be printed in both PLA and ABS, due to its durable design. Also the parts are designed to attach each other with no extra adhesive materials.

Thanks Ken! For the moment we use openpilot flight controller. In the future we planning to use ardupilot mega and integrate more features. We can try kk2 and will let you know! You can find updates in our social media!

Very cool, I love the single axis setup like this.
One idea to make it single motor: default the flaps so they counter the inherited rotation
Thank you! You can already control yaw both with the flaps and motors in this settup. We were trying to reduce size. In that situation a single 8 inch propeller wouldn’t have the power to hover its weight. But any idea is welcome!
Put in it a 15" prop lol!

IMHO 49 euro for the frame you print yourself it’s way too expensive. You want to bring that price down to increase your adoption rate up. The DIY drone is already a tight niche where you can only score a few buyer that have the passion and desire to do the rest of the building don’t push them out.
Just a thought but If you compare with http://3dlabprint.com/index.php where the files to print your own RC plane is just $20 or this static model Mao (Italy) - 3D Artist | Pinshape that sell for less than $5 and Mao can confirmed he sold 100 of them (I bought planes and static model simply because the price was totally acceptable if the price was not I will not have bothered).
Realistically the reward will be much bigger if many people print and build your design.

Cool looking UAV! Does it handle well?
Thank you! We have passed many stages to refine stability. We have created a video as well just for people to see it flying. We tried it also in windy circumstances and it did very well for its 800 grams body. The forward flying is also preety cool. We are planning to make some more videos presenting the attitude, stability, durability and ease of fix.
ps: the RC printed plane is not a static model and there is some really clever engineering (this do not assume your design is not clever buddy) in the design of the ribs structure.
The static model were just an example relating to pricing and adoption rate but I think you understood what I meant.

Test Flight at the park X01
Pretty cool, is it open source ? because you have to modify OpenPilot to fly this right …
Any chance to try it with CleanFlight software and boards ( they are much more befeer )
You can find the stl files and instructions at www.thex01project.com for 29€. It can fly with open pilot and ardupilot controllers so far. We have not try clean flight yet, but I guess if there is a way to set up a coaxial setting it will fly.
