I bought a Micro M3D printer a few weeks ago and it worked fine at first, but in the last few days it has started making a loud squealing/grinding sound while I’m printing as if the print head is dragging across the print and the prints have started failing, they get ripped to pieces. Any ideas on how to fix this? I have tried re-calibrating and that helped a little bit but it still squeals.

Hey dmdar,
It does seem like your nozzle is scratching along the printer bed. Make sure when it’s calibrated everything is within the correct parameters. You may be able to fix it by adding a little oil to the z axis just to loosen things up a little. That way the print bed can move more freely as in your case it sounds like it may be restricted slightly so won’t move that extra amount it needs to. You may want to turn it off and manually move the nozzle along the two axis to get a better idea of what the cause is. If you can try moving the print bed to see if it moves freely. Maybe set it to different heights and see how freely it moves.

If it’s squealing then that sounds like the fan is touching a print job. If you look at the underside of the head there’s a fan glued to it. Has it come loose?
Or if the squealing is continuous then that could be the fan’s bearing is starting to go.
