I have a replicator 2 when I was trying to print a cornet bell but it ended up like this

What material, temps etc.?
The material is pla and the temp 230 c infill 10% layer height .20 mm and number of shells is 2

230 seems very high for PLA, I usually run my hotend around 195-205.
Agreed, 230 is really high temp.

I have a replicator 2 as well and I agree, 230 is too high, run around 200 is good. The other thing to make sure of is the fan is pointed in the right direction, you should NOT see the sticker on the center of the fan. I had a similar problem a year ago with the part failing midway, changed nozzles, checked everything and turned out that the fan was reversed when re-assembling the head when changing out the kapton tape insulation.

I also agree that your PLA extruder temperature is too high. I run mine, although it’s not a Makerbot machine, at 205.
But:
The only time I’ve experienced a problem like that was when I had a bad STL file.
If you downloaded this Cornet Bell from Thingiverse or other repository, you should check it for being water tight.
If other 3d print files will print properly for you, then I would think there is a problem with the STL.
I’ve seen this a few times and the result is never pretty.

Just my 2 cents worth.
Looks like your filament is so dry, lubricate it like 3 to 4 inches with olive oil right before going to the extruder. It makes it much more sticky and when your print reaches to the top try to cool it down with an external fan because every layer gets finished faster and they don’t have enough time to cool down.
