Question from a beginner: is my drawing ready to be printed?

Hello everybody,

I need to prepare an holder which is intended to carry a glass for my 8x10" view camera. Here you can find my drawings:

3D design top plate | Tinkercad

The holder is composed by two pieces, the glass will be inserted between these two components.

Do you think that everything could be ready to be sent to a printing service? Do you see errors? Of course I am not asking about the dimensions, that have been checked.

Thank you for your question, from what I can see these two models are perfectly printable! If you export these models as .STL and upload them to Online 3D Printing Service | Instant 3D Printing Quotes | Hubs they will automatically be checked again while being uploaded.

Hey Marco!

Might I ask what you were planning to print this with? The models look great, but they are very large! This might be out of the capacity of most consumer printers, but would work really well with laser cutting, if that interests you.

If you want to do more mechanical/functional object type design work, I’d suggest learning to use OnShape! It’s a cloud-based, free to use online platform that has tons of functionality. I love it, and use it for most of my model work. They also provide fantastic tutorials and weekly webinars to help get you started.

unfortunately, this project has to be rather large, because the camera is basically huge! It can produce a 8x10" negative with an amazing quality. I hope I will find a way to make this adapter! thank you for your suggestion!

I’m sure you’ll find a way to do it, there are so many ways to manufacture just about anything you could want. Best of luck!

3d printing is a great technology. Its fanatasic for figurines, cases, complex shapes, you name it.

BUT every now and then I come across an order that is better suited for other methods.

This could be cut on a CNC machine very inexpensively, very quickly.

I could do it, but my hub is in the states in the US. You should look for a hub locally that does CNC.

If you still cannot find anybody, query me.
