Hey, I’m building my own 3D printer right now, and am wondering what 8x8in HBP would you all reccomend? I’m upgrading a Printrbot Simple Maker’s kit, and just realized the one I’m looking at will be discontinued before I can get it. I’m looking for a decent price, up to atleast 100C, 12V capable, and screw holes in the corners. Thanks!

Hey @loganj13 , have you had a look at the 3D Hubs Printer Guide ? Either @ or @ may be able to offer you some advice too.

why not upgrade to printrbot plus?
I don’t know if the Printrbot Plus is still available anywhere. I guess I could cut my own parts. I’m making it 8inx8x4(height, soon to be 8) and am doing a tri-rod modification to the y and z axes, which should help with stabilization. If you think the Plus would be better and know more about it I’d love to hear it
printrbot sales a 8*8 hbp for there printrbot plus for 75 usd on there website
do u need a 8*8*8 build plate? if not try looking at the simple metal thats a great upgrade from the simple
8x8 is what I meant. 8x8x8 will be the final build area. I’d much rather upgrade the Simple myself. Ive heard good things about the metal, but I can get the Simple to an 8x8x8 with a HBP and sturdier than regular for around $600, so its cheaper to upgrade myself than spend $1000 to get the metal printrbot of the same size. However I’m short on money for projects atm, and the one sold on printrbot .com discontinues on May 31st, before I’ll have money for it.
I need 8x8 because for one thing, I can, and also because I design all sorts of stuff including some parts for multirotors which are long, and I’m used to using 2 Makerbot Replicators and an Ultimaker 2 at my school.
i myself have the printer u have if u post a photo when the build is done i would be verry grateful because i might want to upgrade mine printer soon too…thanks !!
Isn’t this the printrbot plus? > http://printrbot.com/product-category/3d-printers/metal-plus/
I started with a makers kit, (the plywood simple). I now have a simple metal. You can always segment/quarter parts if you want to make bigger objects?
Oh whoops I thought you meant one of the older models. I can get up to the 8x8x8 and plenty sturdy for around $600, same as a Simple Metal so I’m going for the DIY approach. I may consider designing a box frame version once I’ve gotten it all setup and running well. Either that or atleast an enclosure. Always cheaper to DIY!
Although it looks crazy nice $1000 is out of my price range as well. However, at my school I have access to a CNC machine, an industrial laser cutter, and 2 Makerbots, and an Ultimaker, so I’m going to be modding the **** out of this thing over the summer
I used http://3dheatbeds.com/ for my 12". good board, nice quality. heats up super fast.
