My Prusa appears to have developed a case of the morning after shakes… A couple of prints I’ve done today came out with distinct “ribbing” up the sides - not ringing, these are more like deliberate ribs like you might see for grip purposes. Looking very closely at the X belt while the hot end should have been making a dead straight travel along the Y-axis, I can see a slight tremor with the X-belt moving back and forth. The movement is tiny - fractions of a mil - but it’s visible. I can’t see the Y-belt, but the effect is visible on prints along the X axis so presumably it’s doing it on that one as well (and for all I know, the Z axis and extruder, although I can’t see anything there).
Note that it’s inconsistent - it’s not happening all the way up the sides.
I’m using Simplify3D and, for a change, I’ve got the same model sliced with Slic3r (Prusa edition) to set off once the current print finishes, but this looks more like voltage instability or something rather than slicing.
Any ideas anyone?
This almost looks like infill pushing out. Have you printed this before ok?

Not this particular model, but it happened on the other half of this case as well and I’ve done loads of other things with similar thinner edges. According to Simplify, there’s no infill at that part, it’s just perimeters and the printer isn’t doing the “small infill dance”, it sounds like it’s laying a straight line, it’s just the belt where you can see this tiny movement back and forth.
Netfabb says there’s no problem with the model, btw. I’m going to stick this model into my FF Pro tonight to see what it does - that should rule out (or indicate) a problem with the model itself.

You know what? Scratch my previous reply, it is infilling along those edges, but Simplify definitely shows it as perimeters only (and with 3 perimeters I think it should be. Possibly reduce overlap? Turn off allow infill?
I don’t know if that is really it. I might try a simple calibration cube and see if it does it.
Any luck? I can try the STL also if you want.

Hi @wirlybird well, it looks like this was either Simplify3D full stop, or the settings. I printed both halves of the model from Slic3r (Prusa edition) and they came out perfectly. Same filament, same printer, etc. I haven’t had time yet to go through all the settings and compare, but at least I can confidently rule out a problem with the printer itself, which is a relief.
