Which 3D printing technique should I go for my chess set prototyped in SolidWorks?

What do you mean? Like sls and sla?

It really depends on your expectations of the finished product. Do you want lots of pieces? Or just a few? Do you want super high quality? Or do you just want a quick draft? Do you want the pieces to be strong? Etc…

For a quick rough draft, I would recommend using FDM printing, which is the cheapest and lowest quality option.

For higher quality parts, I would choose SLA printing, because the resin used often produces higher quality finishes.

FDM and SLA printers are both considered “desktop” printers, but for a SUPER professional part their are all kinds of crazy manufacturing methods. However, these methods are typically EXTREMELY expensive, and I don’t really recommend them for most common uses.
