print Marvin with Ultimaker Extended 2

Hi, I’d love to get some advice how to improve this print.

Layer height 40 microns, print speed 30mm/s, travel speed 120mm/s, infill

density 100%, brim and support .

Thanks for your message. I’d suggest removing the support: a Marvin can be printed without support, especially with a good machine as a Ultimaker.
Which material are you using? What is the temperature?

Hi Federico,

thanks for your message. I am using pla. The temperature is “automatic” so unknown as I am using cura 2.1.2. I cannot change anything as is is listed in an inactive greytone. I couldn’t find a way to change that yet.

Hi Mareike,

Thanks for your feedback: I didn’t know that there was a new version of Cura! I downloaded it and I didn’t figure out how you can edit the temperature yet. In any case, considering that you’re using an Ultimaker, you should be able to check and change it on the printer, during the printing process. You can try to set a temperature a bit lower (around 200 C) but I’m quite sure that you can have a great improvement simply removing the supports.

I cancelled support and printed again as you suggested.

Layer height 40 microns, print speed 30mm/s, travel speed 120mm/s, infill

density 100%, brim and support . Also lowered temperature to 200°. It’s pretty much better now! From upside down and also the first part of the ears the print has some quality problems. Any ideas how to improve the print?

Sorry for the late answer, you’re right: the result is clearly better! I’d suggest setting the infill at 10%-20%, it’s enough for a Marvin and you can save filament.

To improve more the quality, you can check the platform’s calibration and eventually try to slow down a bit more the print and the travel speed. In any case, this one is already quite a good Marvin!
