Hi everyone,
We have some exciting news today! A new special filament, but this time based on the Amphora 3D polymer. The filament is infused with 20% carbon fiber, this means a lot of desirable properties in one filament:
- Extreme High Flex Modulus (6.2 GPa) / twice as stiff as PLA
- Moderate strain at break (8-10%), so no extreme brittle filament, butt toughness
- High Glass Temp. (Tg = 80C)
- Very high Melt strength
- Very high Melt Viscosity
- Good dimensional accuracy and stability
- Low odor / Styrene Free solution
- Easy processing on many platforms
- Highly attractive matt black surface
To demonstrate these awesome characteristics we have built the open RC Truggy from Thingiverse 5 **,**completely made from the colorFabb XT-CF20. This is for sure one of the most breathtaking prints we have ever assembled.
CARBON FIBER IS ABRASIVE:
A special point of attention is the abrasive nature of the carbon fibers. In general these fibers will accelerate the nozzle-wear of brass nozzles, much faster than unfilled filaments. There colorFabb recommends to use nozzle’s from Stainless steel or hardened copper alloys.
Available for pre-order:
COME AND TRY IT:
Together with 3D Hubs we’re throwing a filament party: “3D Hubs Filament Workshop” in Amsterdam, and a week later in New York.
During the event, we will showcase the new filament! We will have a workshop of best practices and how to use on FDM printers. Now here’s the awesome: for each attendee we’ll prepare a custom made Colorfabb sample pack including the new special filament! Hope to see you there!
