Monoprise playform not heating

I have a monoprice 3D printer and the platform will not heat. The extruder will heat up. Anyone have the same problem and if so how did you fix it?

Was it working previously? If so, did you happen to smell any strange smells around the time it stopped working? Of course, as always, best first way to check is to load up one of the example files that came with the printer and test with that. If still no heat, you may have experienced the power connection problem that haunts these things. Connections aren’t rated for the amperage, causing them to burn/melt/etc.

Which Monoprice printer? Check all wiring connections to be sure nothing is disconnected or broken. Is your printer still under warranty? If so, contact Monoprice if you cannot fix the issue.

The solder under the platform had weakened. I fixed it by returning it the whole unit to monoprice for a no-charge replacement. —jason

Does it still measure the bed temperature? On mine the wiring for the sensor broke around where they come out of the control box. I did a rewire mod (link below) since the original wiring path causes a lot of stress on the wires. Also for my printer the wires were getting in the way of the belt under the bed. It is a good little printer but takes some work to make it great.

If it’s the select mini then the problem is usually the wiring harness under the bed. It’s set up in such a way that after going back and forth for so long the wires just give out. Monoprice would probably fix it since it’s a known issue on their end.

Yep it’s been working just fine since I got it. It stays at zero and does not heat up. I’ve checked all the wiring and couldn’t find a problem with that. Looks like I’ll just have to get ahold of monoprice and see what they say.

If it reports “0C” then it is the sensor or the wiring to the sensor and not the heater. It should read your room temperature if the sensor works. The bed will not heat if there is a sensor issue (for safety). I really recommend modifying the printer since a replacement will probably do the same thing after enough time. This is a printer that really requires a few mods to reach full potential.
