So what I’ve noticed recently is that I can’t actually change the temperature on the Makerbot software anymore.
As a hint from @Linda_Zouad I created a new “profile”, which can be edited in an Notepad file :
However, there is no clear setting for temperature or printing speed. I just changed anything that is around 200 to my desired temperature and it worked. And I did the same for the speed.
This is what I’ve changed:
“extruderTemp0”: 230,
Whats the difference?
“bridges”: {
Is feed-rate here: speed?

Yep, you’re not tripping, it used to be easily changeable and now it’s not.

This should not be surprising at all. In fact, expected this from makerware eventually and you should have already started a “jar” to save the $140 for the two seats of Simplify3D. This thread should tell you all you need to know.

It is still changeable on my Rep 2, MakerWare version 3.6, but i am not surprised. Are you using a 5th gen machine?
Go for simplify3D. I dont even bother with makerware. the support structures are horrible. You can sell 2 cool 3d printed things that can’t be created with makerware and make back the $140!!

Agreed, I purchased Simplify3d 2 weeks ago, I just need to learn it better to be comfortable on it. Any help/suggestions/best practices would be awesome.

The feedrate /90 is the default speed: usually only great @ long X line structures.Generally I use 50-70, unless great detail is needed- I ran Marvin @ 35,The “disabled” heat setting is the ‘max’- or default heat setting.When you change that on the advanced setups, you actually change the ‘disabled’ to a different temp.5th Generation had defaulted (all) to PLA, and all the newest upgrades are only good for crashing you and your car when printing via telephone.go with an older firmware- 2.4- my biggest difficulty is getting my Mac to match the Windows ( which is usually only use to transfer from mac to the SD card.Via USB Stick. some where along the lines, I got lots of stuff goofed up (“Bear with me” story.

Makerbot have number of different machines, so first thing to know is:
What Replicator do you have? 2x, 2 or something else?
Look like you are using 5th Desktop to me but I might be wrong.
Profile as presented is designed for use with 2x. Do not use just anything over any machine. No good.
Feedrate is speed of extrusion.
I would advise you to leave “temperature_disabled”: 230.0 as they are.
This is what I’ve changed:
“extruderTemp0”: 230,
Temp0 is right extruder temp
Temp1 is left extruder temp.
Most of all, when you create profile be sure to use right template for your printer.

That’s great!! For me this section has always been disabled for the Z18 but But be careful as this will wear out your smart extruder in no time. I have gone through 3 in a matter of months.
what would wear out the smart extruder? I’ve ran the old extruder on the Rep 2 for over 1400 hours without a problem. Is there some kind of defect in the smart extruder design that is causing it to break so easily? any details would be great since I am considering adding a few new printers to my shop!!!

Alex, will it be general or machine specific or a combination of both…I have 2 Makerbot 2X machines and getting a Stacker3D machine in June.
I only have a Z18 which uses the 5th Gen smart extruder. The error I keep on getting is “tool path error” and having spoken to makerbot in the U.S. Is that by using a higher temperature it wears out your extruder quicker than usual. For me I would say every 4-6 weeks and at a cost of £180 each it does get quite expensive to run.
Sorry Kristal- That sounds about right for the Z18 ONE guy managed to get his running OK @ the google groups! others have figured it would cost 12,000 bucks per year to operate due to the “smart”- yeah right- extruder. If it’s possible send it back and keep your money.Most of the 'anti makerbot discussion is all entwined within the 5th gen.

Well, that’s why you go with the extended warranty. And a new extruder every 4-6 weeks? We’ve put about 500 hours on our current smart extruder with only a few homing error false alarms.
