The price is low enough that I would recommend going for new. That way, if something goes wrong, you can always reach out to the manufacturer. With used, its hard to see what the problems is if its your first time and the manufacturer may not be able to assist.

Thanks Pomaer,

I’m definitely looking at a lower end model so the first few that you mentioned are probably not exactly what I’m looking for.

Also, good advise on the second hand printers I’ll certainly keep that in mind so thank you for that

Thanks Ahmet & Pot,

Looks like this could be a winner for me alright… I will investigate further and see where I might be able to source one

ahh, didn’t realise Printers could be upgraded? makes sense I guess but I just assumed people would upgrade by purchasing newer models as they become more experienced etc…

I will look into the Da Vinci 1.0a. thanks for that…

Thanks Jak,

I will definitely head out to Collingwood to check out that store…

Cheers for the helpful info… I’m not sure I’d be sufficient or have the confidence to put together a kit model just yet…

Thanks Andy,

yeah, I’m based in Melbourne, I will check it out. Have you bought from this website before?

Cheers,

B

No I am not with Evok3d. I am an engineer based in Melbourne. Have 3 UP plus printers for prototyping and producing end use parts. The UP plus 2 would be a good buy at the moment. There are heaps of tricks and mods you can make to make them print better. I have added an enclosure and temperature controller which helps.

I have tried a couple of other printers and found that the UP plus is easy to use and gives reasonable quality prints. Any supplier is fine:

I think that the 3dprintingsystems it the distributor for the ANZ region and services most of the other suppliers.

Cheers

Scott

Thanks Scott. I’m looking to start off and just get something printed off here via the Hub, next step will be to purchase a Printer. Thank you for the details that you have provided me so far. Is there a lot of activity on here with regards people requesting Prints from people with Printers? How often would you receive requests to print objects?

Thanks again,

Brian

You might want to consider ordering a cheap printer internationally and dealing with the price. Considering the small range of printers available in oz compared to the US, it is probably cheaper to by one and then ship it.

I would recommend a M3D Micro, as from first hand experience it is an excellent printer. Plus, for $399 (and about $100 shipping) you get 50 microns resolution.

There is also a Printrbot simple, which is pretty cheap too…

Anyway, if you don’t mind paying bit extra for shipping my advice it to get a printer internationally, as overall you can probably get a better printer for a cheaper price.
