From my (limited) research, the best value right now is the Prusia i3 models. Generic design, with a handful of different people/companies selling models.

eg.

It’s a put together model though, which requires some technical know-how and adjustments.

Depending on how much you want to spend i’d recommend the Ultimaker printers, Prusa i3, printrbot simple metal or the lulzbot printers. I use a Creatr HS by leapfrog but i think this doesnt fit into your price range or if this is a good printer for beginners, maybe the normal Creatr by leapfrog would work too.

If you want very detailed product reviews take a look at:

I do not know about 2nd hand printers since most of the printers that are worth it to buy as 2nd hand are kept by the owners as they upgrade the printer.

Hi!

Have you already looked at 3D Hubs Printer guide? Best 3D Printer Guide 2023 | Hubs There are good insights on the best printer in the platform.

Hope this will help you out in the choice!

Hi,

Well I started with a Solid Doodle 3 Solidoodle 3 First 3d print - YouTube I have it for sale if you’re interested for £250 quid with 10KG of clear DLP (2 spoils)

I agree, Ahmet,

ive been printing with the Up! Mini for 2 years. The results are still really good and as you say, it just works!

Cheers,

The Printrbot is always a good choice for first time 3D printer owners. Its an easy upgrade from there!

Thanks Alex, I will certainly look into this option. Would you recommend buying new or buying second hand?

Thanks for your reply Jason, I will look into this Printer as I weigh up my options. Where are based? where would you be shipping from?

Thanks for your reply Simona, I will check out this guide for sure… thanks for that

The price is low enough that I would recommend going for new. That way, if something goes wrong, you can always reach out to the manufacturer. With used, its hard to see what the problems is if its your first time and the manufacturer may not be able to assist.

Thanks Pomaer,

I’m definitely looking at a lower end model so the first few that you mentioned are probably not exactly what I’m looking for.

Also, good advise on the second hand printers I’ll certainly keep that in mind so thank you for that

B

Thanks Ahmet & Pot,

Looks like this could be a winner for me alright… I will investigate further and see where I might be able to source one

ahh, didn’t realise Printers could be upgraded? makes sense I guess but I just assumed people would upgrade by purchasing newer models as they become more experienced etc…

I will look into the Da Vinci 1.0a. thanks for that…

B

We have had good success with the UP+ though they are are a fairly old design now. They are cheap at the moment as they are bringing out the new model “UP Box”.

If you’re in Oz, here’s the guy to buy an Up! from…

He’s pretty active on the manufacturer forum ( pp3d.com ) and seems to know his onions.

Thanks Jak,

I will definitely head out to Collingwood to check out that store…

Cheers for the helpful info… I’m not sure I’d be sufficient or have the confidence to put together a kit model just yet…

B

Thanks Scott…

Are you involved with evok3d? I just checked the website… is it the UP +2 that you are recommending?

Thanks Alex, I’ll take your advise on board…

Much appreciated,

Thanks Andy,

yeah, I’m based in Melbourne, I will check it out. Have you bought from this website before?

Cheers,

B

No I am not with Evok3d. I am an engineer based in Melbourne. Have 3 UP plus printers for prototyping and producing end use parts. The UP plus 2 would be a good buy at the moment. There are heaps of tricks and mods you can make to make them print better. I have added an enclosure and temperature controller which helps.

I have tried a couple of other printers and found that the UP plus is easy to use and gives reasonable quality prints. Any supplier is fine:

I think that the 3dprintingsystems it the distributor for the ANZ region and services most of the other suppliers.

Cheers
