We are looking for strong FDM materials so that the end prints can be made stronger. Apart from nylon, we have tried a few carbon fiber based materials (these usually contain 5% carbon fiber particles mixed in plastic). However, we have not found these to be any stronger than Nylon.
Would be great if people share ttheir experiences on printing with carbon fiber or other materials.

Proto-pasta PC-ABS is also very tough and worth considering in your investigations. You need a heated bed (ideally volume) and an all metal hotend. Its now available in black for a more standard production material aesthetic. I wish we had a bit more comprehensive material data but something is better than nothing, especially in the 3D Printing space: Our Story – ProtoPlant, makers of Proto-pasta As engineers, we are very interested in performance materials, but so far the hardware on the market is our limitation. There are a lot of great materials that no one could process with low cost, open architecture machinery…

Hi there. I’m Emilio, DfC and stickfilament.
We developed the stable PLA HS that is a bite stronger than ABS and Nylon.
We are test a special PP with mineral fibers that is sufficiently stronger to produce engine parts… I’ll update about it in this chat.

Proto-pasta PC-ABS is a good special material. But i’m not sure it works on every 3d printer on the market.

Markforged has the printer for this but it’s far from cheap. Nylon is the primary material and a continuous carbon fiber, fiberglass, or kevlar layer is printed in as a composite structure. It’s the strongest parts your going to get with FFF at the moment.

Nice thread. I came here hoping to see figures of 3D filament materials strength relative to one another. For example, Nylon print material is known to be stronger than ABS and PLA. If PLA tensile strength to be 57.8MPA, what figure do we have Nylon? . Can someone point me in the right direction? Figures like this are what design is based on. Thanks.
