Hello everyone.
I have started to learn how to use the 3d printer recentely and now I have a problem with my file.
I have made this file with Rhino 5.0 mac and Makerbot Raplicator 2 is used for the printing.
Problem is that ‘back part’ printed on right place in the beginning. However, it started to print on strange place after 2 hours and even another file is crashed and I could not send file from computer to machine.
Does anyone can solve the problem of my file? My school workshop tutors said that probably it is my file’s problem but they could not find the problem.
Thank you and I will approciate if anyone can determine the problem.
( Sorry about my bad english, I am not good at english yet )
(Back part) ← printed on strage place after 1-2 hours.

Interesting designs you’ve got yourself there
Did you set to print them with support material or not? What do you mean by “crashed” did it simply got stuck or something? Maybe it was slightly too big in size? Let me know a bit more on what happened
If it is the file (I don’t quite know what you mean by crashed. Computer or software) then try using the Microsoft repair tool. Just upload the file let it repair and download the fixed version. It’s easy! https://modelrepair.azurewebsites.net/
If you need help with it just let me know.
Hope this helps!
Hi. Georgeh. It was not windows or computer problem. Probably 3d model has the problem at some point but I could not find the problem.
Thank you Arnoldas. I did not setup with support material and when I send the file to the makerbot, unknown error is appeared on the screen. And also, another part has printed like this image. Thank you for your advice.
Yes that link should fix any 3D model files. But if you get the error message I recommend changing the setting to a different quality setting and adding supports. This normally makes it slice and print correctly for me.
Thank you very much . I will try it again !. Many thanks !!
Is your print shifting from left to right? Does the printer make a weird grinding noise when that happens? If it is, then you probably need a new X-axis motor cable.
Could be many things, I couldn’t tell you for sure without more details.
- Filament could be bad.
- Filament settings could be wrong.
- Printing speed could be wrong.
- Model might not be water tight.
- Printer could need servicing.
A few questions:
Do other STL files print correctly with the same settings?
Can you show me a screenshot of the Makerware screen?
Do you have a video of the print?
Hello! I think your files were not proper. I tried to repair them with netfabb and sliced 'em for your MakerBot Replicator 2 (standard resolution with support and without raft). The repaired stl.-files are attached. I didn’t test em yet…
If you realy got problems with offset / displacement or you would like to get the sliced files contact us via www.3d-edu.ch.
It’s not possible to upload the sliced files right here (.x3g upload is not supported), but I could send you them per e-mail…
Best regards
Claudio

Hi Claudio.
Thank you very much and I will test it tomorrow. My email adress is prangsoa@naver.com and I will appreciate if you can send the file. I will test both of them. There is opinion that it can be the problem of X-axis cable so i have to check this problem too. Thank you for your help.
There was no problem in the beginning. But it started to print out in strange place after 1-2 hours and always it shifted from left to right side exactly.
Hi. I could not test other files yet because one file is shifted from right to left side and even makerbot software could not transfer another file. Thank you for your reply and i will check again.
For the Replicator 2, if you use Makerware Desktop, you can open the file, pick Print or Export Print File then in the drop down box, pick Print Preview and Show Travel Moves, you will see the part layer by layer and see if the model is correct. If in the print preview, it shows the print head do the X shift, then it is the model. You can also try using the Makerware Desktop to drive the Replicator 2 directly to see if it prints the same.
I just downloaded you model and used the latest Makerware Desktop software and reviewed you part. It shows up correctly so it “will print” I say this but your part has many over hangs that will require support or there will be many areas that will be air printed…
My next suggestion is that you do an Export Print file onto the SD card for the Replicator 2 to see if there is nothing going on between your computer and the printer. Do the print from the Replicator disconnected, pick print from SD card.
