How to print this complex model?

I have a 3D model of a jet engine cutaway which I am hoping to be able to get it printed. However, I believe due to its complexity in details and being single 3D object, it is a challenge for common 3D printers used by users here.

Does any one have an idea or believe can print this ?

Heya, Are you trying to get this printed with the cutaway or as a full model? It should be printable by an SLS machine. I would look under the “Strong and Flexible Nylon” Material page.

Hi

You really do want a commercial printer for this and the different types to use as follows:

1. Objet printers - these are polyjet resin printers and can print this but use a support material that needs to be washed of, which may damage a part that has so many delicate areas.

2. Look for a 3D Systems HD max 3500 which prints in resin and has a soluble support, which will leave you with a precise and finely detailed model.

3. SLS printers will be cheaper, require no support and are durable. The downside is that the surface finish is rough and to smooth it the parts have to be put through a tumbler. This may make the part slightly less detailed looking in the end.

I usually cut complex models in half, then glue them together… I use S3d and place half the model under the print bed. Flip it over and repeat.

If you want to use traditional FDM, it would be best to print all the internals as separate parts, then assemble later. Otherwise, follow the tips already posted

I might try SLS printer or perhaps. cut the 3D model in half for printing.

I do want it to be cutaway for display purposes

I would recommend SLS method to 3D Print just as Alex said, though it is dependent on the size scale of the print model.

Can I ask what scale you’re trying to build that in? What’s the desired length from end to end? The big concern would be if you scaled it down enough to fit on an SLS machine, the engine casing may end up with really thin areas and the compressor blades may not build properly. And even the large fan blades may warp if the wall thickness got too thin.

Also, I’m not sure what your budget is, but what do you think of making the casing out of a clear material and the core as a separate piece using a different material/process?
