Hovalin - 3D Printed Acoustic Violin

Hi guys!

I’d like to talk about our little amazing story!

I am one of the founding members of the APS Syskrack Giuseppe Porsia, and behind it there is a long and sad story.

Within it we have created the first autofundend fablab in Basilicata: the Syskrack Lab, to continue and realize the project of the genius Giuseppe “Peps” Porsia, and to spread the open source-hardware philosophy and the potential of collective digital fabrication.

We’re specialized in the construction of open source 3D printers, and we realized our Syskrack i3 (derivated form Prusa i3) and many other projects.

Recently we found an interesting musical project: Hovalin

That’s an incredible 3d printed ACOUSTIC violin! Not just any other! We decided to try to print it even if the dimension of the original Neck.stl is too big for our printers…but fortune favors the bold! and I decided to print it using the diagonal of the “cube” printing area!

So…that’s the result!

This will be part of the program “Syskrack Music”, a collection of open-source and DIY musical instruments!

To realize it we used only local hardware, so we used alluminium rods instead the carbon fiber rods originally used by The Hovas, and the results are incredibly satisfying!
