Does anyone have a supplier in the UK for 230x150x3 borosilicate glass for the CTC heatbed? All the ones I have found on Ebay are oversized for a square bed, I’m not confident with glass cutting and don’t want to risk resizing a £12 piece of glass with the inevitable (for me) consequences. Or is it acceptable just to go with the overhang on a larger piece 300x300 ?

Wanhao uk have a supply for about £20 on ebay. I bought mine from China on aliexpress. Was about £13 with free shipping and very well packed.

You can’t really go wrong with normal window glass I went to wilko and got a clip from slightly larger than the bed and glass cutter from the tools Isle and scored and cut the glass sanded corners with 600 grit paper (wear a respirator and do it outside!) and I’ve had the same piece of glass for over a month now no problems with it but the only drawback being the clips need to go on the back of the bed and the sides not the front out your head will crash into them, I’ve had the bed upto 125°c and its functioning fine still no cracks

Id beg to differ. I used a piece of 3mm glass from a photo frame for a little while. It shattered one day and made a real mess of my printer. That cost me 7 quid. Few more quid and I could of had a proper piece of borosilicate glass. To be honest, using plain glass that isn’t designed for thermal changes isn’t worth the risk, not when it’s so cheap so buy something designed for it.

3mm glass is way to thick as it stores heat energy for longer and amount stresses in certain areas as it cools faster in other areas it’s like the prince rupert’s drop amazingly strong outside but amazing amounts of internal stresses inside and one nick or crack makes it explode same with 3mm glass so I use 0.8 glass and I’ve had one break on me before and that was because the raft stuck to it so hard the spatula cracked the bed :s just cracked into 3 pieces though are you sure your glass wasn’t safety glass?

My current piece of dollar store 6x9(i know, that’s inches) has almost 500 hours on it. I have broke one or two in the past, but I’m still under 5$ total in 3 years. I don’t use clips, my bed is secured using .5mm silicone pads.

Thanks, not cheap if it works it’ll be worth it.

Edit: Actually that price includes postage so its not too bad, ordered one and see how it goes.
