Has anyone got experience with Formlabs 2? How does the build quality compare to Envisiontec Perfactory Micro? Do the jewellery, figurine or gamer customers use Formlabs 2?
Many thanks
Adam
I run one. No idea about the envisiontec machine unfortunately.
I’ve done jewelry, figurines, scale models of industrial equipment, medical prototypes and dental drilling guides among other bits and pieces. A very nice machine to run and use. I had a form 1+ before this and while it was a lovely machine it wasn’t as well polished as the form 2.
Thanks, that’s good to know. Sounds promising. Regards Adam

Hi @AGPrototypes can’t fault mine, it’s a very well produced piece of kit, you can clearly see how you get what you pay for. The front panel interface is clear and easy to use, the software (Preform) is simple but very effective, there’s great online integration with the Formlabs Dashboard that tracks all your prints, material usage, print tray wear, etc. you can even monitor the progress of a current print.
The only real downside is the material costs - a litre of standard resin will cost you around $150 and you’ll need a new print tray, for each material you have, every 2 litres and they’re around $60. You recover these costs from customers, of course, but it does mean that if you find you suddenly need some more Grey resin, you could be looking at laying out $220 (+ postage), rather than the $30 or so you’d have to pay for another reel of Grey FDM filament.
Don’t forget you’ll also need IPA to clean the parts, and ideally you’ll need some way to cure the parts, in fact this is essential for some resins.
All that said, if you’ve only ever used FDM before, you’ll be blown away by the quality and detail.
Hi Cobnut Thanks for that. I currently have an Envisiontec but considering Formlabs instead, as materials, buildstyles and print trays are expensive. I’ve never used FDM before. Regards Adam
We are ApplyLabWork and we have been working diligently to develop FormLabs compatible resins. All our products have been tested extensively on FormLabs printers (Form1+, Form2) and the results are amazing and solved the problems of damaged VAT, post-cure cracks, failed prints, etc… that often occur in 3rd party resin. Since we are manufacturer direct, you will be very impressed with our prices too. Our Modeling Resin, comparable to FormLabs Standard Resin, is US$60/liter and FREE SHIPPING to the 48 continental states!
