Hey Guys, Just wanted to start a thread for everyone in Brisbane/Australia for filament info/suppliers. Was interested in finding out what everyone is using and your experience with different suppliers and the prices you have been paying for a kg. I often buy from 3dprintingshop.com.au, but I want to know what else is out there and any good/bad suppliers. Cheers Ryan

I’ve only used four different brands -
BilbyCNC - reasonably ok. Colours could be better, price too. Some tangling issues
the3dprinter - similar to bilby, more colours and higher range of finishes. Price is good, they get voltivo brand which I wanna try.
makerbot genuine - expensive but prints well enohgh
faberdashery - good colours, lacks a spool so it helps having spools handy. Great range of colours
Faberdashery’s probably my favourite and dollar for dollar I’m guaranteed no filament tangles because I hand load the filament to the spool. As for shops in Brisbane I’ve never seen one yet

As for prices - bilby is about the $40/kg plus post mark, Makerbot closer to $80, the3dprinter $52/kg with post, voltivo through the 3dprinter is closer to $80 a kg and Faberdashery sell
by the metre rather than kg but their price is probably the highest at 25 pounds per 100 metres (310g)
I’ve been on 3DHubs for a while but have just started supplying Flashforge brand filaments myself via http://www.fabricat3d.com.au
Next big Shipment is coming early May and I’m happy to offer pickup from Coorparoo or Bowen Hills for those who are interested.
Cost is $26 for 1KG ABS rolls or $27 for 1KG PLA with discounts for purchases of 2 rolls or more.

I’m only new to 3dhubs but I was introduced to Andrew over at @Fabricat3d who’s based in Brisbane by a mutual friend.
Andrew helped us select a printer that was suited to our needs, and supplied us with both printer and filament at a competitive cost.
I believe that he’s now received more (and more varied) stock, and was aiming to supply basic PLA and ABS for around $30/kg

I would assume the flash forge stuff is compatible with makerbot printers?
also if you’re able to look into DLP resins like maker juice that would be wicked because I’ve just ordered a DLP Muve printer and makerjuice is the way to go apparently

Hi Ryan! I can recommend www.prototyp3d.com.au and http://3d-industries.myshopify.com/ for local Brisbane 3D printing suppliers - I know both these people and they’re very reliable. I’d also recommend you come down and visit the Brisbane Hackspace on a Tuesday night from 5.00pm onwards and meet some locals who are also keen on 3D printing and Making in general! http://hsbne.org/
I tried to contact the people at prototyp3d about a month ago via their website and never got any response 
That said I’ve been meaning to make it out to hackerspace sometime soon to meet up directly.
Yes, it’s standard 1.75mm with 0.2+/- tolerance. I’m expecting Flashforge will also bring out their own resin as they have 2 new printers expected out in the next month but I’ll investigate maker juice as well, will have to source myself a resin printer for testing, I’m waiting on the LittleRP at the moment

I desperately need some black PLA 1.75mm before the weekend to finish a job. Do you have any in stock at all? I work in Brisbane west end and was just curious as if you would be able to drop it off to my work or if I could meet you somewhere close to pick it up. I don’t mind throwing an extra $10 in if you could do that for me.

As a quick update to this, I’m speaking to MakerJuice and MadeSolid.
It looks like I could initially offer MakerJuice at around:
$60/500mL for the G+ Resin
$72/500mL for the SF Resin or Form 1 Resin
$100/1L for the G+ Resin
$115/L for the SF Resin or Form 1 Resin
$20/bottle for the Coloured Pigments
With that said I might not be able to justify stocking the 1L bottles at present as even though they work out to be a little bit cheaper I’m not sure people would readily spend $100+ on each bottle; depends how the market for SLAs goes; could allow me to drop it down further with more interest.
There’s also the colour consideration, you either order pre-pigmented (and then I have to ensure I have supply of each colour) or you have to pigment each bottle… I could order in un-pigmented or pre-pigmented (the former of which means no additional pigment cost for the end user).
Feel free to swing me an email (andrew@fabricat3d.com.au) if you want to chat further, I’m open to any suggestions on bulk buys and I could even arrange a special rate for you if you can bring in some other people who’ll buy as well 
I’m also going to hit up the Flashforge guys and see if they have an indicative price on the resins (and if they intend on supplying them).
