I made my first 3d printer from scratch so most of the methods I’ve tried have not worked but I’ve been trying to get my dual extruding working I have tried cura, mattercontrol, and slicer but when I use cura this happens (picture 1 looks like a real printed piece ) then it’s suppose to look like (picture 2 looks like gcode). Any suggestions or advice will be much appreciated.
Hi djake77,
To me it appears that your calibration for dual extrusion is quite far off. One of the main things you need to be careful about is that with dual extruders, not only the bed have to be perfectly level, but the extruder nozzles themselves have to be absolutely perfectly level with each other. Otherwise, a good first layer height for one extruder won’t work for the other, and during printing the lower nozzle will constantly be hitting and dragging across the piece while the higher nozzle is extruding. In your case, it appears your first layer height is calibrated properly for the extruder printing blue, but the one printing tan isn’t level with it.
In addition, it’s important that your nozzle offsets (how far nozzle 1 is away from nozzle 2) is also configured perfectly, because the printer doesn’t inherently know the position of the two nozzles relative to each other. You may have to offset the tan nozzle a lot more in your firmware or slicer if you want it to position itself properly.
If I may say so, dual extruder printing is an extremely delicate procedure and even experienced printer operators have difficulty with it sometimes. If this is your first printer, it could be beneficial to wait a few weeks and gain experience with single-extruder printing before attempting to get dual-extruder printing working.
Hope this helped!
I’ve been printing for about almost a year with this printer with the single extruder and the settings were tuned right but I had the second extruder laying around doing nothing so I put it on.
the nozzles are both level the reason it looks like that is because it didn’t use the x axis only the y axis.
The software is right with the offsets being 34mm on the x axis and 0 mm on the y axis I can’t figure out why its not moving the x axis
