Hey Guys i just got the dreamer as my first 3d printer
i have been testing and i have made half a dozen prints small just for testing but
they all have the same problem around 1/4 of the print there is always deformation or holes
i have tried using flashprint and also simplify 3d but they have the same problem hopefully someone here
knows a way to fix this i use abs extruder 220-230 platform 105-110 fan off 100 microns
what i dont understand is that for example if my print has 300 layers 1-50 are great and 50-80 have the problem and
after that 80 to 300 is great again hopefully someone will help Thanks in advance

I always use the cooling fans on my FF Dreamer and get pretty decent results. you might also need to slow down the print speed a little for the faster layers (small surface areas).

You need to set your cooling fans on… if it’s PLA they always have to be on at 100%… if they’re ABS then I would set them on at 50% and reduce the speed…
what you’re getting is that the print is printing too fast that it’s not letting it dry so the heat of the next layer is transferred and deforming the previous layer
also if it’s PLA, turn off the heated bed and print on blue painters tape… much better
OK, so you’re using ABS. So your settings seem right for that. You want heated bed at 100°C and no cooling fan. You also want the lid on and door closed while printing.
I rarely deviate from the Simplify3D default settings myself these days but that’s after years of tweaking every parameter available on Slic3r.
What I am seeing in the photos is that the layers that have problems have overhang.
Also looking at the print it seems to be quite a small scale part.
You can try a couple of things.
Try printing 2 at a time. This will slow the layers down. Allowing more time for a layer to set solid before the next layer is printed.
Or you can add a prime pillar in Simplify3D (on the extras tab)
You can also try printing with supports. Simplify3D does support that’s pretty easy to remove with default settings. Although, I would change the support pillar resolution to 1mm for such a small print.
If you’re keen to experiment I’ve found that changing the outline direction to “outside-in” (layer tab) can give better surface finish on prints with overhang. But you’ll probably lose out on some surface detail as a consequence.

Ho Joserod, not sure what’s going on there, are you sure it’s ABS and not PLA? Are you using supports for the overhangs? If you’d like to join a large 3D print group I can recommend 3D Printing Club | Facebook it has 22000 members so your bound to get some good advice there.

Hi,
There is nothing wrong with your printer or software.
This is an issue that occurs with all Filament printers when printing a ball shaped object.
The bottom half will always be deformed.
In this case the area in your print that is deformed is shaped like the bottom half of a ball.
It happens because the layers are placed on top of a surface that is smaller and the material is not steady.
Also the material heating and cooling causes shrinkage which causes deformation.
I would recommend:
1. Choose shapes that print nicely with this technology.
2. For ball shaped objects, Try cutting the shape in the middle off the ball and print the parts separately face down.
3. Try using PLA - it shrinks less than ABS. I only use ABS for specific needs (that’s a differnt talk).
4. Settings for PLA: extruder 215 platform 50 fan on 200 microns
5. Settings for ABS: extruder 230 platform 100 fan auto 200 microns
6. 200 microns is always recommended (the difference from 100 hardly shows and it takes half the time).
7. Stick with flashprint.
