When you were a kid, you probably wished you could design the character that you could not find in the store. Well, you’re about to get that chance

We’re teaming up again with Autodesk, this time with their Tinkerplay app, allowing you to design and customize awesome characters and creatures. With the integration of 3D Hubs into Tinkerplay, you can now not only design your own characters and creatures, like robots, but have it printed right around the corner. Bionicles better pack their bags!

The Tinkerplay app lets you drag and drop different (body) parts and choose customizable textures and colors for your character. It’s really cool and easy to use. When selecting ‘print with 3D Hubs’, you will send all the robot parts straight to print via 3D Hubs.

Currently you can choose from 8 printing locations in New York, San Francisco, London, Amsterdam and Melbourne to have your character printed. Simply design your robot, hit print, and your figure will be ready in two days! See https://www.3dhubs.com/tinkerplay for more info!

Win yourself a Tinkerplay character!

To celebrate the integration, we organize an online design competition for best Tinkerplay designs. Until Sunday June 28, you get the chance to win a 3D printed version of your ultimate robot each day, by following these steps:

  1. Download the Tinkerplay app for free: iOS, Android and Windows Phone or Tablet
  2. Create your ultimate robot with the Tinkerplay app
  3. Share the final design on Facebook or Instagram, #3dhubsxrobot

We’ll pick a winner each day and there’s no limit to the entries. The winner will get his/her Tinkerplay design 3D printed for free (max. €/$30). So, all you budding robot designers out there better get to it

Finally, we’re very excited to tell you that 3D Hubs now added as a 3D print service provider in the Autodesk apps: Tinkercad, Meshmixer and 123D Design via Meshmixer. To find out more, check out Tinkercad at www.tinkercad.com or Meshmixer at www.meshmixer.com.

Awesomeness!

Hey Filemon,

Great news! I love Tinkerplay and we’ve been printing parts like mad. Once you’ve made a few robots you then end up with a whole lot of compatible parts so you can re-use the parts to make new robots! Have a look at the pictures on my hub for the little Tinkerplay robot that I brought along to the last meetup. This was the first one I ever made and it printed perfectly.

Are all hubs in the printing locations automatically included in the program to be able to print these?

Cheers,

Marc

Hi Marc,

Thanks for the good vibes

Hubs are not yet automatically included in the program as we’re testing with just a few. I will let you know when we start scaling.

Cheers!

When I was a kid?! I still am!! LOL

Tinkerplay is a fantastic concept! I can’t wait to see it reach its full potential. I love the fact that we can design custom accessories for the “Tinks” using Tinkercad too! Daisy; my first customer, loves the whole thing and is especially taken with my raptor claw.

Just one point: While I’d love to be able to supply “Tinks” in a couple of days and in many cases, I will be able to do so, the app says “5-10 days” on the order tab, which I’d feel much more comfortable committing to. From midnight tomorrow, my biggest printer will be dedicated to Tinkerplay prints and in most cases I’ll be able to offer next day delivery but it’s the difference between what can be done and what can be maintained, long-term. If anyone needs a fast turn-around, they’re welcome to contact me via my hub and let me know.

Cheers,

AndyL
