Decent 3d scanner for facial modeling?

Does anyone know of a good service locally (Seattle) or a decent scanner I could buy to get a 3d model of my face? I need it to be quite accurate because it will be used for medical purposes.

Hey @austinfox, if you go to Online 3D Printing Service | Instant 3D Printing Quotes | Hubs, fill in your location and choose 3D scanning services in the Advanced Options tab, you’ll get a list of all Hubs in your area offering 3D scanning services. Hi Austin, I have a basic 3D scanner, iSense by 3Dsystems. Check out the pictures on my hub to judge if it is as detailed as you would need. If so, contact me and I can arrange a scanning.

If you draw lines on your face with makeup, and use a DSLR camera, 123d catch ( a free program by autodesk), you can get very good accurate models from the photos. The attached image is a scan of myself, but I lowered the resolution very much after the scan. I use a similar process, but through a better (paid) program called agisoft photoscan. Results are great, I’d recommend trying it prior to paying anyone.

Wow, that’s a really impressive scan! I’ve heard many people struggling with this app, but this is such high quality result. If you want to share some tips/ methods, please feel free to do so in a separate thread.

@derKarsten did a intro series for 3D Scanning - How to get started & the technologies involved -, and it would be nice to see some practical examples on using varying apps. Let me know!
