Hey guys, I am really annoyed as I cannot print for more than three hours without a filament jam. Basically, after three hours of straight printing, the filament messes up in some way and I get a jam. Its very annoying because you waste filament and you waste time. It happened now and I am so fed up that I came here looking for answers. Looking at the part of filament that was jammed in the extruder, it looks like a squished up pulp…
Any help?
Did you deep clean the extruder or did you only use the poking metal to clean out the nozzle?
Sometimes small residues of ‘old’ filament are backed to the inside of the nozzle.
This backed polution builds up onto the inside surface of the heated nozzle.
These can be removed by deep cleaning.

After every 20 hours (about) of printing or when changing the filament spool color, I carry out deep cleaning to keep the nozzle clean.
Next to this it may be usefull to clean out the drive gear when this gets dirty.

Sorry if this was unclear, but what I mean by extruder is the motor which pushes the motor into the actual hotend. On the Davinci Jr. it is the spot which you first enter the filament into and the teflon tube is connected in.

On the website from xyz there is cleaning procedure for the drive gear.
Btw I have experienced that if the flow through the extruder nozzle is bad then also the drive gear gives trouble.
When the flow through the nozzle is not sufficient then the drive gear starts slipping and grinding the filament.
This also happens when you try to build bigger parts with thick Layers settings.
It looks like the nozzle cannot get enough heat into the pushed in filament.
Thus blocking the nozzle and a slipping drive gear.
I do not get these problems when using thinner layers on larger build jobs.

I refer to experience with the Da Vinci Junior where the drive gear is far away from the extruder nozzle.
Flow problems at the nozzle do result in slipping drive gear because the filament can not be pushed further.
