I spent a lot of time levelling, printing test cubes…and printing multiple pieces to obtain the right quality of my prints, but as soon as I got the XT filament from ColorFabb, print a “cooling ring” or the name you want to give and everything changes.
In the pics you could see the difference before/after, with the same program, same parameters and…obviously no need to print more than one piece at a time.
Marvin was printed with the PLA-PHA Shining silver from ColorFabb.

Can you give us the link to the stl file of the cooling ring? That looks very handy…

I used to use fan ducting like that but really doesn’t allow for enough airflow. An open fan or two opposite facing open fans really do the trick. Both producing airflow from all directions in the area and keeping the hotend cool preventing PLA jamming. Just be sure to calibrate your hotend PID with the fans running.
It really makes a difference and allows you to print very long bridges and overhangs where the ductwork does not have the airflow to cool that much material that quickly.
