Hey guys, this is my first post, so please direct me to another one if it’s already been discussed.
I got my Da Vinci 2.0 for xmas '15, and so far it’s been great. Had a few glitches here and there, but that was expected.
I ordered some filament online from one of the xyz recommended sites, and it came yesterday. But as i went to use it last night, the printer said that there was no cartridge installed. I’ve had this happen twice before, but the place i bought them from was happy to exchange them.
So i tinkered for a while, taking the cartridge out, putting it back in, pulling the cartridge apart, whatever. Then I read somewhere online that it could be a dodgy connection, so I pulled the chip out and tried placing it on the contacts myself. That was when my printer stopped responding, but turning it off and then back on the fan starts for a bit, but i get no light, and the LCD panel is just showing black squares.
Has anyone else had this problem?

I have had that happen a few times. I don’t know what causes it I just turn the printer off and turn it back on. Maybe someone may have a define answer.

I had a xyz before, if I were you I’d just return it and go with a Robo 3D R1 plus, a little more expensive, but you will save a lot buying any filament you want, printing flex, using other better slicers software, be ablle to use E3d extruders with easy, way better customer care any many other advantages, the think that is good on the da vinci is the enclosure. Im realy happy that I changed my da vinci to a R1plus!
But da vinci is a good printer to get into 3D printing, since you will be always reading foruns to solve the issues you gonna get in the way!

Hmm. The printer usually does that after the eeprom is flashed. Did you try adding repetier host to the printer?
I tried turning it on and off again a few times. I’ll try leaving it a day or 2 and see what happens.
I wouldn’t know how to flash it. All I did was remove the chip from the cartridge to try and get better contact by pushing it on with my finger. Then the printer became non-responsive, so I turned it off and back on and that’s when the bars appeared.
If I recall, I want to say there is some sort of reset on the backside. But not sure. Unplug it from the wall too. But yes the cartridges do have poor contact here and there. A little contact grease helps. I have one I leave in there as a dummy and feed open source filament from the side. If you tried to hold the chip in there yourself there is a possibility the lines were switched. There is a positive, and return and a signal feed.
if the black squares still persist it sounds like a fuse on the motherboard has blown.
It sounds like something has shorted out. If it doesn’t come back on by itself you may need to flash it. I’m not sure if you can push the stock firmware from the cd back on or if you have to do a repetier type flash. There is a forum posts out there that document both. Repetier is much better for quality and the learning curve isn’t that difficult. Could be the best oops for your printer.
