You could also check out printyourmind3d.ca out of Calgary.

Wow printyourmind3d.ca seems great. The prices are fair and they are all brand named filaments. Plus one day shipping to Edmonton. I think I will try MG PLA. People seem to really like it after cranking up the heat (People say it needs around 230 degrees cause it has gel like window that you need to heat past). I think taulman is a little pricey for hobby prints. Anyone try MG and like it?

I buy from Reprap warehouse. They are local in edmonton and have great prices and really excellent service. And the product is well known.

Hey Calan - if you buy it from us you can pick it up next day… or even today if you ask nice  i.e. shipping is free.

I don’t think you’ll find anyone that complains about the quality. We’ve been doing this in Edmonton for longer than anyone (over 2 1/2 years) we have just about everything (RepRap brand) in stock (hundreds of rolls) and like the gentleman (Jeko) said we have EXCELLENT customer service… We pretty much focus on filament rather than too many varied items so that we can keep feeding the machines, whatever color/shape/size they are. With our long history you can pretty much be certain our stuff has run through every one out there.

Among our hundreds of regular customers - we are being used by Edmonton Public Schools and the Innovate Program, and for all the prostetics they are printing. We’re now a main supplier for the MakerSpace at Edmonton Public Library and literally dozens of other commercial users all over Canada. Brand names are way over-rated and besides we have a no-questions-asked return policy if you ever have a (non-user error) quality problem.

And heck the more people come to us the more we can keep in stock…

I tried reprapwarehouse and I find the stuff to be aweful but to whoever uses it I can sell them a bunch of their filament. $15/kg for PLA and tglass. I also have a roll of the flexible filament in natural for $25.

Ya, after I started this thread, I bought from printyourmind3d. They have some higher end filaments that I haven’t tried so I wouldn’t say that you shouldn’t buy from them but the MG chemicals filament isn’t very good. I found Voxel Factory out of Montreal that sells Colorfabb at a acceptable price. I get it on Tuesday so I will update you guys after I try it out. I decided Colorfabb because the color seems really full and consistent with a nice silky look. I am also told that Hatchbox with amazon prime is a very good budget option but for some reason they only have 3 pla colors in Canadian amazon (blue, green, pink).

Hey Calan, I’m really sorry to hear you weren’t happy with the MG Chemicals filaments. Can you explain a bit more about why you feel they aren’t very good? Also, what machine are you using? Have you had success printing with any other materials so far?

We stand behind the quality of the MG Chemicals materials and use them ourselves every day on our machines with great results. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Yes colorfabb sounds and looks amazing but the price is insane. I did try MG chemicals ABS and it was awful and it threw it away. Filaments.ca is very good for the price the only problem I have with their PLA is sometimes it will snap in the extruder if I am lazy and leave it for over 24hrs. Their Petg/tpu/abs are great, no complaints there only issues with the nylon and tpe.

I’m using a Printrbot Simple Metal. I am not saying that you can’t get a good print with it because I have actually gotten some very good prints. It just seems inconstant. To be completely honest this is only the third brand that tried (buyapi.ca’s OEM filament and printrbot) but it was the only one that I was unhappy with. I believe that a part of it is because of having an inconstant diameter. A 3 hour print will usually get a good result but a >10 hour print will fail a lot of the time. To give you an idea of my experience using at least half of a roll (taking out failures 100% due to my mistakes) :

printrbot natural PLA: 0 failures

buyapi.ca orange PLA: 1 failure

MG Chemicals Green PLA: 2 failures

MG Chemicals Grey PLA: 9 failures

Obviously you have to take this with a grain of salt because they are usually printing different things but this is my experience and when I had to reprint a customers order 3 times to get a good one it kind of sucks.

Thanks for sharing your experience, how is the strength and flexibility for each of the filaments before and after it has been printed?

BuyApi.ca is decently priced, not the best selection of colors though.

I normally purchase filament from filaments.ca but recently after seeing this post I decided to try reprapwarehouse.com.

reprapwarehouse pla filament needs to be printed at 230c-225c also as it is very gel like even at 215c bed temp btw 70-60c, in filament form it is soft and pliable but when printed the models are weak and delaminate on failure. Filaments.ca pla filament prints at 190c-205c 60-50c and rarely delaminates on failure and are much stronger. This is the reason I am selling the $260 worth of filament I purchased from reprapwarehouse.com for less then $130.

I’m a big fan of the ColorFabb filament, and honestly Voxel Factory is great! If you look at what the Europeans are paying for the same filament, we’re getting a great deal over here in my books.

It’s completely worth the money in my opinion, and I’m a student who’s broke

95% of my issues disappeared when I started using ColorFabb and got my printer settings tuned for the filament.

Not nearly as cheap as other options, but certainly a high quality product with zero headaches, and that’s worth a few extra bucks imo.

Cheers
