I recently purchased the Da Vinci Jr and I asked my teacher if he had any extra filament I could have, so he gave me about 100m of a filament. Once the printer arrived I realized I can not use alternate spools. The filament has the same diameter and as far as I can tell with given specs it is the same. Can I re-spool the old roll with the new material and the machine be fine with it? Will my warranty or anything of that sort be ruined? Also, Can I remove 100% of the filament from the machine if something goes wrong?
The problem is the chip. The printer knows how much filament is left. There are ways to reset the chip though you will just have to make sure they work with your printer
That’s XYZ’s thing… You can only use their cartridges unless you hack the printer. This has been the primary gripe with them since they came out a few years back. Not sure how you missed it.
The printer keeps track of how much filament is used. When it belives that cartridge is out of filament, it’s out… regardless if there’s still some left.
Your best bet here is to give the filament back to your teacher and go do a lot of research.
You have to use their filament unless you know how to reset the cartridge. That’s why they sell their printers cheaper. So they make money on cartridges. So re-spooling it will not reset the chip.
You can buy refills for slightly cheaper than a new cartridge. MakeShaper also makes refill, is it cheaper than XYZPRINTING? I don’t know.
Very limited to black cartridges and nothing else.

You have to pay $10 to do it though, because the guy who gives you the password you need to reset the chip with your phone uses his own equipment in a time-consuming process that he doesn’t do for free. But it’s worth it, at least to me.

A great way to get around all of the limitations is to flash your printer with repetier host. That,s what I did with my printer and now I can use any filament I want and I can edit all of the settings. I only recommended it if you don’t want to void the warranty and you know what your doing.
EDIT: Didn’t realize you were talking about the jr. Currently there isnt a method to flash the jr but I think people are working on it. Sorry about the misunderstanding

Why would my Ardroid phone say RFID NFC Tool isn’t compatible with this version? I just did updates on my phone.
Version of software or version of phone? If your phone doesn’t have the hardware for RFID reprogramming… it doesn’t have it.
you will pay 10$ every time you need to change your filament ? or juste 1 password you use it every time ?
