ABS Wont Stick to Bed

Hi all,

I’m new to 3D printing but very willing to learn. But lately I am thinking of teaching my printer flying lessons.

My issue is any ABS print wont stick to the bed, and I have tried all of the solutions listed on the web. Glass Plate, Blue Tape, Hairspray, Glue Stick and even that messy goup made from melting ABS in acetone…none work

So I have tried various printer temps from 60 to 180 on the bed. Various extruder temps 180 to 260.

When I use PLA on the basic bed platform using the standard print temps it works fine but I am a little disappointed in some of the finishes, so I decided to use ABS

Any advise??

Hey @nra1962, what printer do you have and what slicer/firmware are you running?

What printer? What slicer? What brand of ABS?

What speeds? What first layer height? What general layer height?

ABS is challenging but very doable.

Old pla on the bed can cause serious adhesion problems for abs! Remove all the tape from your bed, clean your bed thoroughly, pla doesn’t dissolve in acitone so give it a good scrub, once all the pla is totally removed, clean the bed with acitone! Apply kapton / polyamide tape (preferably) then dissolve one inch of abs in 250ml of acitone to make a very weak “abs juice” … print bed should be 100 minimum … I use 110 and hot end will be 240ish (good abs comes with temp guide on packaging, done can be as low as 220)
