I made a pair of Ray-Ban Clubmaster sunglasses in AutoCAD a few months back. I uploaded them to thingivers in the hope that someone would print them and tell me what I need to change, but no one did. So Im thinking of printing them with the help from 3D Hubs.
But before I send off a request to get them printed, I would need to know if it is possible to print them. If someone has the time to check them out and tell me what I need to change I will be very happy.
After having checked your file, I’m afraid it’s not suitable for printing as it is.
This mainly due to wall thickness, the smallest I measured was 0.48mm depending on which type of printers you would like to use I would keep it a minimum of 0.8mm.
For this kind of model I would suggest finding a professional printer on the 3D hubs platform which will give you great results.
Lastly I would recomend using metal hinges that would attach on the printed part.
Interesting that you say you were givena design project and so you designed a pair of rayban clubmaster glasses - when what I think you mean is that you copied a pair of the glasses and then published the copy to thingiverse - as a future designer I think it is worth understanding both copyright and trademark.
it would be worth your changing the ‘design’ so that it is 3dprintable rather than the combined metal plastic of the original as that will help you appreciate how hard it is to desing and how easy it is to copy
I know you mean well, but too much consumption today is copying rather than origination - and if you learn to priginate then the world will be your oyster!
Hi James, The task our teacher gave us was to copy a pair of glasses that already exist, I chose to copy the clubmaster glasses. My first intention was not to upload the modell to thingverse but I got interested in if it was possible to 3d print them. I don’t think Ray Ban will lose any thing because of me copying the glasses. I did it because I love the look of the glasses. - I will have the copyright and trademark policys in mind in the futur. I will change the design even though the hinge design is my own and the part that goes behind your ears. I agree with you that much consumption today is copying, but sometims you learn a lot by copying others. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
