Moving forward I want to share with you some of the awesome 3D prints that pop on our platform.
Some of them are game-changing, some are cool, but what follows is a straight-to-the-heart beautiful print commission by @Lillux as a surprise for his girlfriend. It was printed by 3 Digital’s Hub in Catania @3Digital on his Prusa i3.
Here’s the story behind it, in @Lillux’s own words:
‘The heart model is a 3d reconstruction created from a contrast-enhanced CT of my girlfriend. She has been sick some years ago, but is now well.
We are both med student and she loves cardiac surgery, so I decided to give her a reproduction of her own heart; therefore the heart is a gift for her. She is also an artist, so I decided to print the heart in white PLA so she could paint the heart as she pleased.
Medical prototypes are most of my work, but in this case it is a gift for the person I love.’

This is breathtaking! What software did you use for the design @Lillux? And how long did this take to print?

I used 3d slicer to extrapolate the first 3D model from CT. I then used blender and meshmixer to refine the model. I don’t know how long it take to print because @3Digital’s Hubs print the heart for me

The print need 28 hours and 1,5 hours to remove the support.

The print looks amazing! How did you manage to get those ramifications right? It looks nearly impossible to print.
Hi, is not very simple, I have used a linear support. You can see the output print before the support remotion.

Ciao, immagino tu sia italiano. Mi dici che modello di Prusa hai usato? Originale o cinese? Inoltre vorrei sapere se pensi che sia preferibile prendere l’una o l’altra. Complimenti per la stampa!
